Biography
Institutional Advancement Director
 
Rev. Carolyn Clay Pickens, a native of Tyler, Texas, is the daughter of Ms. Eleanor Clay and the late Mr. Marshall Clay Jr. Rev. Pickens serves as Institutional Advancement Director. She is responsible for Information Systems & Technology, Printed Media & Publications, Audio/Video Media Ministry, and Public Relations/Marketing.
 
Rev. Pickens received her Master's of Divinity degree from the Houston Graduate School of Theology. She received her Bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of North Texas. She was ordained at Brentwood Baptist Church in 1988.
 
Having served on the forefront of Criminal Justice Ministry, Rev. Pickens has served as a volunteer Chaplain both in the juvenile and adult arena for Harris County since 1986. She has served as a board member for Houston Interfaith Ministries, Chaplaincy Services, Prison Fellowship and Youth for Christ. She has actively directed Brentwood's Angel Tree Ministry for children of incarcerated parents since 1985. Under her leadership the CJM has developed numerous mentoring and outreach opportunities. Rev. Pickens founded Impact Houston, a support meeting for family and friends of incarcerated in 1997.
 
Rev. Pickens has served as an executive board member of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and the  Associational Leadership Committee member for Union Baptist Association and was inducted into Leaders Edge. She has served as a board member for the Trinity Pines and Baptist Mission Centers.  She  is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Rev. Carolyn Pickens is married to Rev. Larry V. Pickens, a minister and educator. They are proud parents and grandparents.
